David Taylor Wright is one of those Nashville singer/musician/
songwriters who's been around "forever", but unless
you're an inside member of the music community, you
may not have heard of him until now.
Briefly,
he comes from Wichita Falls, Texas. He is an accomplished
pianist, and he spent nine years studying classical
music, beginning in 1949. He took up the guitar in
1957, and in 1958 began writing for Tree Publishing
Company in Nashville, Tennessee. He toured with Memphis
saxophonist, Ace Cannon in 1965, and moved to Nashville
in 1971. His musical experiences include playing in
bands with Nashville’s Delbert McClinton and
New York City’s John Hiatt.
1991 brought Wright some major news about his songwriting
career. “You Were Always There”, a gospel
song that he and Nashvillian Dwight Scott composed,
had been released in a Warner Brothers album by the
singing group New Faith, featuring Teddy Pendergrass,
top soul singer as guest artist. “You Were
Always There” was played on CBS Evening News
with guest host Ed Bradley, in connection with a
story on New Faith.
Then in 1992, David rededicated his life to Christ,
and has since directed all his talents to his music
ministry. Songs from his books have been sung at
many churches including Catholic, Episcopal, Baptist,
Methodist, and Disciples of Christ.
David Taylor Wright has written and recorded his
premier album, “Walk
On The Water”, along
with guitarist Tom Wild. The album features singing
by the Glory of Zion Prayer Group of Antioch, Tennessee.
His newest albums, “Mass Of The Lamb” and “Rosary
Of Our Lady Of Sorrows”, are available in Spanish.
